Does My Roof Need Repairs?

There are many ways to determine if your roof needs repairs. If you don’t know what signs to look for, it’s easy to let the condition of your roof decline, which could end up costing you more money in the long run.

We have created a list of the most common signs of roof damage, so you can get the roof repairs you need before the damage becomes extreme.

Hail and Wind Damage

Storm Damage- Your Homeowners insurance policy will cover most of the costs of storm damage – not casual wear and tear. Therefore, if you see major or minor damage to your roof after a storm (visible signs of damage from the ground, leaves from your trees shredded by falling hail, damage to your car in the driveway, or seeing your roof leaking, etc), you should call Lifestyle Home Improvement first.

We will first inspect your property, help you file the claim, meet with you adjuster and provide our professional services to get your claim approved.

Problems with Shingles

Dark or dirty shingles – Shingles are not meant to trap moisture, if they do, they are not doing the work they are meant to.

Cracked or missing shingles – Cracked and missing shingles are a key indicator that your shingles’ lifespans are coming to an end, and that they must be replaced.

Shingle granules in the gutters – When asphalt shingles begin to wear significantly, or your home gets hit by a hail storm the granules will fall into the gutters.

Wear and Leaking

Tear around roof objects – When parts of your roof (including the chimney, pipes, or vents) start to develop openings, this means that deterioration is rapidly developing. Usually, these openings can be fixed in the specific areas and not through a whole roof replacement.

Peeling paint – Another problem brought on by poor ventilation (or sometimes gutter system failure) is the build-up of moisture, which can cause the paint to peel.

Staining on ceilings and walls – If the roof fails and water is coming in, the ceilings and walls of your home could be stained. This is a major sign that your roof needs to be replaced.

Attic leaks – When water is getting into your attic from the outside, you probably have a storm created opening.

Sagging roof deck – If your roof deck is beginning to sag, this could mean that your decking is wet from leaks. If it is contained in one area, the damaged area can be repaired, avoiding a full roof replacement.

Unexpected Roof Openings

Higher than usual energy bills – If you notice a sudden spike in your electric bill, the hot or cool air from your home might be leaking through the roof — wasting energy and increasing your monthly bills. If the sources of these leaks are fixed, your energy bills should return to normal.

Seeing outside light in the attic – Seeing outside light coming through your attic, even if it doesn’t result in a full water leak, is an indicator of deterioration or a storm created opening. This should be repaired as soon as possible, so a larger leak will not occur.
